Position Description:

The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of OBGYN is seeking a Certified Nurse Midwife (APRN) to provide primary or specialty medical care within a defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed physician, in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and procedures. The APRN will be responsible for the physical, mental, and emotional care of patients during delivery, including prenatal and postnatal education, examination during pregnancy, and assisting in creating birth plans. The role also involves ensuring the health and well-being of both the newborn and mother during delivery.

The Ideal Candidate will be an RN with Women's Health experience, professionalism, strong communication skills, and collegiality, eager to join a collaborative academic practice at MCW. Responsibilities include providing direct patient care in a blended setting.

In this role you will:

  • Perform gynecological exams
  • Educate patients on health, nutrition, and family planning
  • Perform diagnostic tests
  • Provide comprehensive prenatal and postpartum care following ACOG standards
  • Counsel expectant mothers on birthing plans and hospital care
  • Offer emotional support during birth
  • Coordinate prenatal care
  • Prepare for delivery following health standards
  • Coach mothers through labor
  • Perform deliveries and assist with cesarean sections
  • Monitor fetal and maternal health during delivery
  • Assist physicians during complicated births
  • Review patient history and health assessments
  • Monitor postpartum patients and address questions
  • Participate in research and educational opportunities
  • Perform emergency procedures such as CPR
  • Perform newborn circumcisions as needed
  • Contribute to team duties in the Birth Center
  • Attend training and meet regulatory requirements including CMS and The Joint Commission standards
  • Evaluate quality outcomes and contribute to quality improvement initiatives

Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifying normal and abnormal findings
  • Order, perform, interpret diagnostic tests, and document findings
  • Develop and monitor treatment plans
  • Educate patients on health conditions and treatments
  • Perform procedures as trained and credentialed
  • Document in EMR and other records
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members
  • Provide patient and family education on health maintenance and prevention
  • Attend training and meet regulatory standards
  • Stay updated on trends in the Nurse Practitioner field through ongoing education
