Job summary

Salem Health in Salem, Oregon is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to provide compassionate, hands-on care in the Medical Surgical Unit. Department:Medical Surgical Unit
Position Type:Full Time, 36 hours/weekly, Non-Exempt
Schedule:7:00 am - 7:30 pm, three 12-hour shifts, variable scheduled days

Your role with us

As a certified nursing assistant (CNA) at Salem Health, you play a vital role in delivering compassionate, hands on care during some of the most vulnerable moments in a patient’s life. You’ll assist with daily living activities, monitor vital signs, and collaborate closely with nurses and providers to ensure safe, personalized care. Your empathy, attention to detail, and strong communication skills help create a healing environment and build meaningful connections with patients and families.

Our four medical surgical units care for a highly diverse patient population with diagnoses such as heart failure, sepsis, renal and respiratory failure, COVID-19, and complex co morbidities. This setting offers CNAs a broad range of experiences and the opportunity to develop a well-rounded clinical skill set. The Care in Place model allows CNAs to care for patients holistically while collaborating with multiple disciplines to support patients throughout their hospital stay. It’s a fast paced, rewarding environment where your contributions truly make a difference.

What you'll do
  • Completes personal care on each patient as directed by plan of care, including policies and procedures, without continual direct supervision.
  • Accurately performs skills per policy and procedure.
  • Completes only those skills duties for which competency has been demonstrated basic and advanced skills checklists.
  • Documents pertinent patient information concisely and legibly using acceptable medical terminology and abbreviation on all assigned patients.
  • Assumes additional clerical responsibilities as department needs dictate.
  • Monitors and record vital signs, reporting changes to the nursing team.
  • Supports nurses and healthcare staff in delivering personalized, high-quality care.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and healing environment for patients and families.
  • Provides emotional support and compassionate care during vulnerable moments.
  • Communicates clearly and respectfully with patients, families, and team members.
Required qualifications
  • Certified in the State of Oregon to practice as a CNA.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS).
