Position Overview

The CMA is responsible for distributing physician‑prescribed medications and treatments under the supervision of a licensed nurse, within the boundaries of the Nurse Practice Act of the state. The CMA may also assist with bathing, hygiene, feeding residents, ensuring medication administration, and assessing vital signs.

Essential Job Functions
  • Accurately and safely prepare, administer, and document all physician‑ordered medications and treatments in accordance with federal and state regulations, the Nurse Practice Act, and professional standards, while honoring person‑centered care.
  • Ensure that all medications and treatments are administered in a manner supporting resident direction, choice, and dignity.
  • Follow facility policies and procedures and nursing practice standards for medication administration.
  • Dispense medication following the 5 rights of medication administration—right resident, medication, dose, routine, and time.
  • Support facility procedures for resident self‑administration of medications, encouraging residents to actively participate as much as possible.
  • Observe residents closely for needs, changes in condition, refusal, or reaction to medications and immediately report to licensed nursing staff.
  • Provide restorative therapy under the leadership of therapy professionals and in accordance with the resident’s functional maintenance plan.
  • Care for residents’ personal laundry.
  • Prepare each resident’s room with necessary items: blankets, pillows, medical equipment, and toiletries.
  • Assist housekeeping by cleaning rooms when needed (dusting, taking out trash, vacuuming).
  • Attend to all resident personal hygiene and personal care needs, including grooming, hygiene, dining, nutrition, mobility, elimination, and safety needs, and organize all supplies necessary to complete the tasks.
  • Monitor vitals and behavior and report them to nursing and/or medical leaders.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum age 16 years.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • CMA license in the state of Kansas.
  • CPR certified.
  • Proficiency reading and understanding a Resident Plan of Care or assignment (e.g., ADLs and introductory visits).
  • Understanding of quality of care objectives.
  • Understanding of quality of life objectives.
  • Competency evaluated, tested, and registered with the state of Kansas.
  • Completion of cross‑training for neighborhood/house activities, social service, housekeeping, laundry, and food service and handling.
  • Spanish bilingual capabilities are a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a state‑approved program for nursing assistants and medication administration; valid CMA license required.
  • CPR certified.
  • Completion of cross‑training for neighborhood/house activities, social service, housekeeping, laundry, and food service and handling required.
  • Minimum age 16 years.
  • Spanish bilingual capabilities are a plus.
