Job summary

The Medication Assistant (MA) serves as caregiver who provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a charge nurse. Knowledge of and delivers age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per plan of care.

Administers prescribed medications as delegated by a licensed nurse and within their scope of practice as defined by state regulations.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required.
• Minimum age 18; prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
• Satisfactorily completes yearly competency testing and maintains required CE credits.
• State CMA/CNA certification requirements must be met (SD and other states listed).

Responsibilities

• Provide resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under supervision of a charge nurse.
• Assist with activities of daily living, vital signs, transfers, range of motion and mobility.
• Administer prescribed medications as delegated by a licensed nurse and document outcomes.
• Support meals, hydration, wellness and recreational programs, housekeeping and laundry as needed.
• Communicate changes in condition to the charge nurse and participate in safety/resident care planning.
