The primary responsibility of this position is to assist in the administration of medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the supervision of the nurse or Director of Nursing Services. The administration must comply with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations governing long-term care and assisted living facilities. You will be delegated the necessary authority, responsibility, and accountability to perform your duties.

Principle Duties And Responsibilities
  • Report errors in medication administration.
  • Complete necessary forms, charts, and reports.
  • Prepare, administer, and document oral and topical medications accurately and safely.
  • Verify medications brought into the facility.
  • Assist with medication charting and ensure proper labeling.
  • Document and remove discontinued medications.
  • Manage medication reordering and returns.
  • Record and report residents' vital signs accurately.
  • Observe and verify medication ingestion or application as directed.
  • Administer medication only with a written, signed, and dated order.
  • Follow guidelines for storage of medications and biologicals.
  • Participate in resident assessments as needed.
  • Understand common medical abbreviations and terms related to medication administration.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/Job Training
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Licensed Certified Medication Aide with successful completion of a state-approved training program and examination.
Experience
  • Minimum of 6 months practicing as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Specific Requirements
  • Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
  • Knowledgeable about providing age-appropriate care.
  • Ability to interact tactfully with personnel, residents, families, and visitors.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with others.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and office equipment.
  • Must not pose health or safety threats to others.
Work Environment
  • Work in all facility areas.
  • Move intermittently during shifts.
