Job summary

Texhoma Christian Care Center is seeking a Certified Medication Aide (CMA) to responsibly gather and dispense medications for residents as prescribed by the physician, within facility policies. The role includes assisting residents with daily living activities and requires adherence to nursing care guidelines.

The candidate must possess Texas licensure as a Certified Nurse Aide and a Certified Medication Aide, with training/certification as required by Texhoma and the Texas Department of Aging

Qualifications

  • Must be Texas-licensed as a Certified Nurse Aide.

  • One year related experience preferred or relevant training.
  • Basic understanding of medicines, uses, and dispensing.

Description

Basic Function: Responsible for gathering and dispensing medications and PRN medication to residents, as prescribed by the physician and in accordance with facility policies and procedures. Responisble for assisting residents with activities of daily living as needed.

Position Requirements, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Requires basic understanding of specialized area of knowledge normally acquired through four years of high school plus the successful completion of Nursing Assistant course or equivalent and a Medication Aide course. Ability to understand and carry out moderately complex oral and written instructions.
  • Holds current Texas licensure as a Certified Nurse Aide. Completes and/or meets training, certification required by Texhoma and Texas Department of Aging and Disability.
  • Holds current Texas licensure as a Certified Medication Aide. Completes and/or meets training, certification required by Texhoma and Texas Department of Aging and Disability.
  • Ability to use up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force continuously to move objects and/or people.
  • Work deals mostly with areas such as client records, medical records, visual inspection involving small details. Visual work is primarily close to observer. Depth perception and field of vision (peripheral) are not as critical as the ability to distinguish small details and markings very near to the observer. Color perception for some tasks (e.g., dispensing meds, assessment of resident condition) is important.
  • Position requires bending, stooping, twisting, turning, reaching, lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing, climbing, kneeling, walking and standing over 75% of shift.
  • Work under close supervision with awareness that error may have serious consequences. Exercise patience, initiative, and judgment (following established guidelines).
  • Personality attuned to the requirements of meeting needs of the infirm and aged, and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
  • Ability to recognize differences in sound, such a voices/noises that are loud and playful instead of angry and combative.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment under broad certified nursing care guidelines.
  • Ability to exercise patience, tact, initiative, judgment, and confidentiality (following established guidelines). Work under close supervision with awareness that error may have serious consequences.
  • Ability to recognize changes in a resident’s appearance, attitude, and condition.
  • Personality attuned to the requirements of meeting needs of the infirm and aged, and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
  • Knowledge of basic health care practices and procedures, including infection control.
  • Basic understanding of medicines; uses, results, and dispensing.
  • Minimum of one year related experience preferred, or experience as Nursing Assistant, or appropriate formal education/training or Texhoma training.
  • Commitment to Christian principles and teachings both professionally and personally.
  • Sufficient good health to properly discharge duties.
  • Ability to comply with Resident/Patient rights, all state/federal regulatory requirements, and all company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to attend general orientation session and attend department orientation.
  • Submit to TB Tine Test and return as instructed to read results or provide results of current TB Tine Test in the last 12 months.
  • Must be employable by the Texas Nurse Aide Registry (NAR) – cannot be listed on the NAR as revoked; and cannot be considered unemployable by the Employee Misconduct Registry (EMR).
  • Cannot be convicted of a criminal offense listed in the Texas Health and Safety Code (THSC), §250.006(a), or convicted of a criminal offense listed in THSC, §250.006(b) within the five years immediately before your application date.
  • Must be able to work 12 hour shifts; must be able to work any day of the week.
