Job summary

Sylvan Shores Health & Wellness in Texas is seeking a Certified Medication Aide to join our compassionate care team. The CMA will ensure residents receive accurate medications as ordered by the physician, following nursing standards and state guidelines.

This full-time role offers a 6a-2p M-F shift, competitive pay, PTO and Holidays, medical, dental and vision coverage, life insurance, LTD/AD&D, short-term disability, and additional supplemental policies.

Qualifications

  • Requires CMA in Texas and CNA in Texas; 1 year healthcare experience preferred.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to follow nursing standards and medication administration guidelines.
  • CPR certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain report from the CMA being relieved and document med administration details.
  • Administer medications accurately and on time per orders.
  • Monitor residents for drug effects and adverse reactions.
  • Notify licensed nurse of changes or errors.
  • Perform duties of Certified Nurse Aide as assigned.
  • Follow care plans related to medication administration.
  • Store medications properly and monitor expiration dates.

We are looking for skilled CMA's (Certified Medication Aide) to become part of our facility's compassionate care-giving team!

The CMA will support the community by ensuring residents are well cared for and receive accurate medications as ordered by the physician/physician extender in accordance with established nursing standards, standards of medication aide practices, state and federal requirements, and guidelines of the community related to medication administration.

Responsibilities
  • Obtain report from licensed nurse/CMA being relieved and record sufficient information related to medication administration to implement accurate changes to medication orders.
  • Administer medications to residents in an accurate, timely manner to include, but not limited to, correct resident/correct medication/correct dose/correct route/correct time.
  • Observe residents for effectiveness of drug therapy and occurrence of adverse effects. Report immediately to licensed nurse.
  • Document resident cares related to medication administration, related monitoring, and report to the licensed nurse any occurrence of observed adverse effects/change in resident's condition.
  • Notify licensed nurse of observed changes in residents’ conditions, medication errors, medication not available, and any other observations.
  • Perform duties of Certified Nurse Aide as assigned.
  • Follow comprehensive care plans related to medication administration based on each resident’s needs and his/her comprehensive assessment as assigned.
  • Participate in Community education programs.
  • Promptly report observed changes in residents’ conditions to the licensed nurse.
  • Respond to residents’ call for assistance promptly.
  • Verify accuracy of narcotic count; check emergency kit and exchange keys.
  • Obtain in-service hours required.
  • Observe infection control procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by his/her supervisor.
  • Store medications accurately and appropriately, monitor drug expiration dates and follow process for destruction.
Qualifications
  • Enjoy working in a skilled nursing facility setting, eager to improve and continuously learn new skills
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with physical capability to perform job-related duties
  • Validated ability to act in a compassionate and supportive manner
  • Prior experience in a healthcare environment (minimum of 1 year); preferably in long term care
  • Willingness to enforce health and safety standards

Must-Haves for Role
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Medication Aide in the State of Texas
  • Certified Nursing Assistant in the state of Texas
  • CPR certification (preferred)
