Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• CPC or CPC-A certification required.
• One year of recent applicable coding experience with ICD-10-CM and HCPCS/CPT preferred.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret medical record documentation to translate into coding forms.
• Analyze health records to identify diagnoses, procedures, supplies, and modifier requirements for encounters.
• Apply ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines and notes to assign correct codes and sequence them within the encounter.
• Clarify conflicting information by consulting physicians to ensure documentation sufficiency and accurate code selection.
• Utilize Encoder and AAPC bulletins to ensure current coding selections.
• Prioritize caseload by date and source; review system-generated edits to correct data elements.
• Conduct focused coding/encounter audits across multi-specialty practices and provide findings and action plans.
• Resolve coding and reimbursement issues with Patient Financial Services and payers; assist in reducing back-end errors.
• Provide back-up to Hospital Coding team to meet KPI’s and metrics.
• Adhere to AHIMA standards and official coding guidelines and organizational compliance.
