Job summary

Boys Town in Omaha, NE is seeking a Medical Coder to review and assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for outpatient and clinic services in accordance with coding guidelines and payer requirements.

Responsibilities include documenting interpretation of medical records, determining diagnoses and procedures, and resolving coding or reimbursement issues with internal and external stakeholders. CPC certification and confidentiality are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certified Professional Coder certification (CPC or CPC-A) required.
• Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS coding theory with high accuracy and productivity.
• Experience with E/M coding guidelines for clinic, outpatient, and inpatient settings.
• Excellent communication and ability to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Reads and interprets medical record documentation to translate into coding form.
• Analyzes health records to identify diagnoses, procedures, and modifiers for encounters.
• Applies ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS guidelines to assign correct codes and sequence.
• Clarifies ambiguous information by consulting clinicians to ensure accurate documentation.
• Resolves coding/reimbursement issues with Patient Financial Services and payers.
• Prioritizes caseload to meet timely filing requirements.
• Provides back-up to Coding Leadership and supports KPI achievement.
• Adheres to AHIMA ethical standards and official coding guidelines.
