Job summary

Pardee UNC Health Care is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to interview patients and initiate care in our clinics, up to specimen collection and test result delivery. Responsibilities include vital signs, documentation in EMR, and coordination of follow-on procedures.

The role requires CMA certification and BLS, with the ability to lift supplies and navigate the clinical area. Work is onsite in a 40-hour week in Vascular Surgery.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current Medical Assistant certification (CCMA, CMA, RMA, NCMA or ARMA).
• Must hold current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Ability to lift supplies and navigate clinical areas regularly.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients to collect and document history of present illness and allergies.
• Performs vital sign measurements and standard clinic testing as procedures require.
• Coordinates follow-on procedures including onsite testing and specimen collection.
• Assists with provider-performed procedures such as sutures or splints.
• Communicates with patients about care and explains procedures with cultural competency.
• Documents care in the EMR system and ensures necessary forms are completed.
• Collects and prepares testing specimens for transport to offsite labs.
• Maintains supplies and medications for clinical operations.
• Upholds a safe, clean, and secure clinical environment.

Summary:

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) interviews and initiates care for patients who visit our clinics and plays key roles in the care provided, up to and including specimen collection and delivery of test results.

Responsibilities:

• Interviews patients to collect and document history of present illness (HPI), medication reconciliation, history of allergies.
• Performs vital sign measurement and any standard testing per clinic procedures
• Coordinates and performs follow-on procedures as directed by a provider, including but not limited to onsite testing, specimen collection, and wound care.
• Assists with provider-performed procedures such as suture application or splints
• Communicates with patients in a timely and effective manner regarding their care. Notifies patients of test and lab results. Patiently and clearly explains practice policies and procedures using cultural competency and active listening.
• Documents care into electronic medical recordkeeping system (EMR). Ensures completion of necessary documentation and forms.
• Collects and prepares testing specimens as needed for transport to offsite laboratory.
• Maintains and monitors consumable supplies and medications for effective ongoing clinical operations.
• Promotes a safe, clean and secure clinical environment for all, including the application of standard precautions and principles of infection control.

Required:

• Must hold a current Medical Assistant certification. Accepted forms of the credential are:
• Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) as issued by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) as issued by American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) as issued by the American Medical Technologists (AMT)
• Medical Assistant (NCMA) as issued by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) as issued by the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
• Must hold current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Position will require the ability to lift supplies and equipment regularly and navigate clinical area actively throughout work.

Preferred:

• Prior work experience in a clinical setting.
