Job summary

Pardee UNC Health Care is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to interview patients, initiate care, collect specimens, and document results in the EMR. The role supports physicians with procedures, tests, and wound care in a 40-hour onsite day schedule.

The ideal candidate holds CMA credentials (CCMA, CMA, RMA, NCMA, or ARMA CMA) and BLS certification, with prior clinical experience preferred. Must be able to lift supplies and navigate a clinical setting.

Qualifications

• Must hold CMA certification or equivalent credential (CCMA, CMA, RMA, NCMA, ARMA CMA).
• Must hold current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Ability to lift supplies and navigate clinical area regularly.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients to collect and document history of present illness and allergies.
• Measures vital signs and performs standard testing per clinic procedures.
• Coordinates and performs follow-on procedures including onsite testing, specimen collection, and wound care.
• Assists with provider‑performed procedures such as suture application or splints.
• Communicates with patients about care and test results, explaining policies clearly and respectfully.
• Documents care into the EMR and ensures necessary forms are completed.
• Collects and prepares testing specimens for transport to offsite labs.
• Maintains supplies and medications for efficient clinical operations.
• Promotes a safe, clean environment with standard infection control precautions.

Summary: The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) interviews and initiates care for patients who visit our clinics and plays key roles in the care provided, up to and including specimen collection and delivery of test results.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients to collect and document history of present illness (HPI), medication reconciliation, history of allergies.
• Performs vital sign measurement and any standard testing per clinic procedures
• Coordinates and performs follow-on procedures as directed by a provider, including but not limited to onsite testing, specimen collection, and wound care.
• Assists with provider-performed procedures such as suture application or splints
• Communicates with patients in a timely and effective manner regarding their care. Notifies patients of test and lab results. Patiently and clearly explains practice policies and procedures using cultural competency and active listening.
• Documents care into electronic medical recordkeeping system (EMR). Ensures completion of necessary documentation and forms.
• Collects and prepares testing specimens as needed for transport to offsite laboratory.
• Maintains and monitors consumable supplies and medications for effective ongoing clinical operations.
• Promotes a safe, clean and secure clinical environment for all, including the application of standard precautions and principles of infection control.

Qualifications

Required:

• Must hold a current Medical Assistant certification. Accepted forms of the credential are:
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) as issued by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) as issued by American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) as issued by the American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • Medical Assistant (NCMA) as issued by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) as issued by the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
• Must hold current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Position will require the ability to lift supplies and equipment regularly and navigate clinical area actively throughout work.

Preferred:

• Prior work experience in a clinical setting.
