Job summary

Pardee UNC Health Care is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to interview patients, collect health histories, perform vital signs, and assist with procedures in our Pardee BlueMD clinics. The CMA will document in the EMR, communicate test results, and maintain a safe, organized clinical environment.

The role requires a current Medical Assistant certification and BLS, with prior clinical experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current Medical Assistant certification.
• Must hold current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Ability to lift supplies and navigate clinical areas.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patients to collect HPI and allergies.
• Performs vital signs and standard testing per clinic procedures.
• Coordinates and performs follow-on procedures, including onsite testing and specimen collection.
• Assists with provider-performed procedures such as suture application.
• Communicates with patients and explains policies using clear language.
• Documents care into the EMR and ensures necessary documentation is complete.
• Collects and prepares testing specimens for transport to the lab.
• Maintains supplies and medications for day-to-day operations.
• Promotes a safe, clean clinical environment with infection control practices.

Summary:

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) interviews and initiates care for patients who visit our clinics and plays key roles in the care provided, up to and including specimen collection and delivery of test results.

Responsibilities:

• Interviews patients to collect and document history of present illness (HPI), medication reconciliation, history of allergies.
• Performs vital sign measurement and any standard testing per clinic procedures
• Coordinates and performs follow-on procedures as directed by a provider, including but not limited to onsite testing, specimen collection, and wound care.
• Assists with provider-performed procedures such as suture application or splints
• Communicates with patients in a timely and effective manner regarding their care. Notifies patients of test and lab results. Patiently and clearly explains practice policies and procedures using cultural competency and active listening.
• Documents care into electronic medical recordkeeping system (EMR). Ensures completion of necessary documentation and forms.
• Collects and prepares testing specimens as needed for transport to offsite laboratory.
• Maintains and monitors consumable supplies and medications for effective ongoing clinical operations.
• Promotes a safe, clean and secure clinical environment for all, including the application of standard precautions and principles of infection control.

Required:

• Must hold a current Medical Assistant certification. Accepted forms of the credential are:
• Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) as issued by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) as issued by American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) as issued by the American Medical Technologists (AMT)
• Medical Assistant (NCMA) as issued by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) as issued by the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
• Must hold current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Position will require the ability to lift supplies and equipment regularly and navigate clinical area actively throughout work.

Preferred:

• Prior work experience in a clinical setting.
