Job summary

UNC Health in Chapel Hill is seeking a part-time Medical Assistant I, Certified to support providers in an outpatient clinic. This 0.50 FTE role involves rooming patients, collecting vitals, and assisting with procedures under supervision.

Required are a Medical Assisting program and MA certification (AAMA/AMT/CCMA/NRCMA/NCMA) plus Basic Life Support. Prior MA experience preferred; strong teamwork and computer skills needed.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Medical Assisting program is strongly preferred but not required.
• Must hold Medical Assistant certification (AAMA, AMT, CCMA, NRCMA, NCMA).
• Basic Life Support certification required (AHA/ARC).
• Prior MA experience or externship preferred.
• Proficient in using a computer to document in the EMR.

Responsibilities

• Room patients and collect vitals, height, weight, and reason for visit.
• Collect patient data and medical history; update records.
• Review medications, allergies, and preferred pharmacies.
• Assist providers during treatments, exams, and procedures.
• Collect specimens and perform phlebotomy.
• administer medications under supervision.
• Perform tests (e.g., EKG, eye exams) as directed.
• Review records for routine health screenings.
• Ensure exam rooms are stocked and ready with supplies.
• Provide after-visit and self-care instructions to patients.
• Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain exam rooms.
• Sterilize instruments.
• Assist with patient registration, scheduling, and referrals.
• Answer clinic calls and help manage in-basket tasks.
• Assist in emergencies as directed.
