Position Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant performs patient care under the direction of the physician and supervision of the lead nurse in an ambulatory care setting.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
  • Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
  • Participates in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities.
  • Supports effective communication with patients and families.
  • Works collaboratively with administrative and operations staff.
  • Gathers patient data through interviews and observation.
  • Assists patients and families with exam preparation.
  • Assists the physician or APP during examinations and procedures.
  • Demonstrates competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice.
  • Provides routine treatments and administers approved medications.
  • Documents patient data, treatments, procedures, and education according to policies.
  • Acts as a liaison to schedule and provide information for testing and consultations.
  • Processes calls professionally using sound clinical judgment.
  • Enters medication, lab, and imaging orders into the electronic medical system under provider guidance.
  • Ensures compliance with policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Maintains safety practices and infection control standards.
  • Maintains regular, punctual attendance.
  • Ensures compliance with all policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
  • Provides age-appropriate care based on data assessment.
  • Demonstrates awareness of legal, patient rights, and accreditation standards.
  • Uses supplies efficiently.
  • Assists with reception, scheduling, and discharge as needed.
Qualifications
Education/Training
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school or at least one year of relevant work experience.
Licensure/Certification
  • Current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification.
  • Current certification or registration from one of the recognized agencies (list included).
