Job description

Description

This role is responsible for accurately and promptly coding outpatient and professional medical records in accordance with established coding standards, CMS regulations, and hospital guidelines. The coder reviews various outpatient encounters and assigns diagnostic and procedural codes following relevant guidelines and regulations, including facility-specific and federal requirements.

What You Will Do
  • Review patient encounters and assign appropriate ICD-10-CM diagnostic codes and CPT procedural codes based on established guidelines.
  • Code outpatient ROP, ED, or professional physician services accurately.
  • Maintain productivity and quality standards.
  • Ensure optimal assessment using CPT/ASC/APC/APG classifications.
  • Work within UH billing timeframes.
  • Update coding knowledge through resources, clinical information, and webinars. Stay informed on guidelines and regulations affecting the department. Maintain current credentials.
  • Adhere to the Standards of Ethical Coding by AHIMA.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Participate in educational activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Follow all policies and standards.
  • Refer to departmental documentation during orientation for specific duties.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of Protected Health Information (PHI), adhering to training, UH Code of Conduct, and policies.
