Job summary

Duke Health seeks a Certified Medical Assistant at the Duke Sports Sciences Institute in Durham, NC to join our healthcare team. The role involves direct and indirect patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include vital signs, intake, medication administration per protocol, and assisting with procedures. Schedule is day shifts, Monday–Friday with no weekends or holidays, and relocation/commitment bonuses are available.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program is strongly preferred.
  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA is required.
  • BLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Take patient vital signs and collect visit information.
  • Document encounters and follow clinic protocols.
  • Administer medications as ordered or per protocol.
  • Assist with procedures, setup, and sterilization as needed.
  • Obtain prior authorizations for medications and equipment.
  • Float within the clinic to support patient and provider needs.

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking aMedical Assistant, Certifiedin ourDuke Sports Sciences Institutelocated inDurham, NCto be an integral member of the healthcare team to provide direct and indirect care to patients.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform intake with patients to include vital signs, visit information, and other clinical information as indicated.
  • Perform telephone message taking with patients, document encounter, follow protocols established by clinic leadership, and inform provider.
  • Administer medications to patients as ordered by providers or by established protocols following the six rights of medication administration.
  • Participates in performance improvement projects.
  • Performs tasks such as set up for clinical procedures, high level disinfection & sterilization or other miscellaneous appropriate tasks within scope of practice.
  • Attain prior authorizations for medications and durable medical equipment as indicated.
  • Float in clinic to cover patient and provider needs as delegated by nurse manager, health center administrator, charge nurse, or nurse team lead.

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred.
  • High school or GED graduation required.
  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required.
  • BLS required
  • Level I -- No experience required.
  • Level II -- 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified in a clinical setting.
  • Heavy lifting and the ability to transport stretcher and wheelchair patients may be required.

JOB HOURS:

The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
