Job summary

Duke Health is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant in Orthopaedics for an on-site role in Morrisville, NC. The candidate will perform both clinical and administrative duties, supporting physicians with patient care and handling clerical tasks and clinic operations.

The position requires MA certification, HS diploma, BLS, and clinic experience; responsibilities include rooming patients, obtaining histories, processing forms, and coordinating referrals.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program (CAAHEP/ABHES preferred).
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required.
  • 1 year of clinic experience preferred.
  • BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients, take histories, chart and assist physicians.
  • Handle clerical tasks: prep clinics, obtain test results, verify insurance and authorizations.
  • Restock supplies, clean exam rooms, maintain safe work environment per policies.
  • Follow HR, Compliance and Joint Commission policies; promote patient rights.
  • Remove or assist with DME per protocols and state requirements, cast/splint support as directed.
  • Develop skills to remove casts and apply basic splints to extremities as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by clinic leadership.

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a Medical Assistant, Certified responsible for performing a variety of duties depending on whether it is a small clinic, large medical practice, multi-clinic, or a specialty office. They may be involved in both the clinical and administrative areas including assisting physicians with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Patient Care Responsibilities- rooming patients, collecting histories, charting, answering phone calls, completing forms
  • Clerical Duties- prepping clinics, obtaining test results, updating charts, verifying insurance, obtaining authorizations, coordinating referrals and appointments
  • Fulfills EOC Responsibilities- cleaning exam rooms, ordering and stocking supplies and restocking exam rooms, cleaning exam tables, maintain safe work environment by checking for expired supplies, medications, emptying sharps containers
  • Organizational Duties- promoting patient rights, responding to emergency codes, following HR, Compliance and Joint Commission policies
  • Responsibilities that vary according to state law, which include autoclaving, checking vital signs, suture removal, dressing changes, entering orders based on physician protocols, biohazard waste, blood drawing, applying DME to a patient
  • As assigned by clinic leadership, develop the ability to remove cast, apply basic splints and cast to the upper and lower extremity. Accurately fit all DME products used in the clinic.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager or HCA.
JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
  • Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant programaccredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred.
  • High school or GED graduation required.
  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required.
  • 1 year prior experience in a clinic setting preferred
  • BLS required
