Qualifications

Job Description Summary

MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) that provides healthcare to patients within the rural health network throughout South Carolina.

The Certified Medical Assistant performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician.

Job Responsibilities
  • The Certified Medical Assistant reports to the Outpatient Clinic Manager. Interviews patients, measures vital signs (pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, height), and records or inputs information into patients' medical records. Prepares treatment rooms for examination.
  • Basic computer skills required. Annual competencies are required to be maintained. Ability to understand and implement detailed instructions in therapeutic procedures and to make accurate physical observations. Effective communication skills are essential.
Minimum Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited medical assisting program preferred. One year of patient care experience is a plus.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations
  • Certification through AMT, AAMA, NHA, MedCA, or NAHP as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent.
  • Current BLS certification from AHA or Red Cross required.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform various physical activities including lifting up to 50 lbs, working in confined spaces, and performing repetitive motions. Visual and auditory acuity required. Ability to work rotating shifts and overtime. Must be qualified for respirator use and maintain tactile and olfactory sensory functions.
