Job summary

UNC Health in Chapel Hill is seeking a Medical Assistant II, Certified to provide clinical and administrative support in an outpatient Family Medicine clinic. The role works under clinical supervision and helps with patient intake, vitals, phlebotomy, medications, and tests, ensuring smooth patient flow.

Responsibilities include assisting providers, managing rooms and supplies, and coordinating scheduling and referrals.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Medical Assisting program is preferred but not required.
• Certification as a Medical Assistant (AAMA/AMT/CCMA/NRCMA/NCMA) is required.
• BLS certification is required by American Heart Association or Red Cross.

Responsibilities

• Perform rooming and intake, including vitals, height, weight, and reason for visit.
• Collect patient and family data and medication/allergy history.
• Assist providers during treatments and procedures as directed.
• Perform phlebotomy and collect specimens.
• Administer medications under supervision and monitor patient responses.
• Conduct tests such as EKGs and basic vision checks under supervision.
• Maintain exam rooms and stock supplies; prepare educational materials.
• Support front desk tasks: registration, scheduling, and referrals.
• Assist in emergencies as directed by a clinician or nurse.
