Job summary

UNC Health Care in North Carolina seeks an experienced Medical Assistant II, Certified to provide routine clinical and administrative support in an outpatient clinic. Under the supervision of the provider, you will assist with patient care, data collection, and workflow coordination.

Requires MA certification from AAMA/AMT/CCMA/NCMA/NRCMA and BLS. At least one year of experience and strong communication/EMR skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Medical Assisting program is strongly preferred but not required.
• Certification by AAMA/AMT/CCMA/NCMA/NRCMA is required.
• BLS certification from AHA or ARC is required.
• Minimum 1 year of full-time experience as Medical Assistant, Certified.
• Proficient computer use to document information in the EMR.

Responsibilities

• Rooming/intake including vital signs and reason for visit.
• Collect patient data including medical and social history.
• Review medications and allergies and preferred pharmacy.
• Assist the provider during treatments, exams and procedures.
• Collect specimens and perform phlebotomy.
• Administer medications under provider supervision.
• Perform tests such as EKGs and eye exams as directed.
• Review records for routine health screenings and reminders.
• Maintain exam/treatment rooms with supplies and safety materials.
• Provide after-visit, self-care, and educational instructions.
• Prepare, stock and clean exam rooms; sterilize instruments.
• Assist with patient registration, check-in/out, scheduling and referrals.
• Answer clinic calls and manage in-basket under supervision.
• Assist in emergencies as directed.
