POSITION SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing patient care and support within the ambulatory setting.

The Medical Assistant accurately completes patient interviews, collects specimens, assists providers with exams and procedures, maintains inventory, provides patient education, and ensures quality care and services as directed by the physician. This role also involves performing phlebotomy, CLIA waived testing, specimen collection, EKGs, drug/alcohol testing, splinting, and administering formulary medications safely under physician and departmental protocols.

This position supports organizational goals through quality customer service, participation in performance improvement, and teamwork.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of a Medical Assistant program required.
• License/Certification: Phlebotomy certification (ASCP preferred). BLS/HCP certification within six months. Must be a graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program with at least 330 hours of instruction, including medication administration training as per NJ requirements. Maintain active national certification (AAMA, NCCT, NHA, AMT, BME).
• Experience: 1-3 years in ambulatory care preferred. Ability to handle high volume, interruptions. Proficiency in clinical applications preferred; training provided if needed.

Demonstrates competencies as per the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Potential exposure to hazards, infectious diseases, hazardous substances. Requires reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, sitting, standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs frequently, 100 lbs occasionally. Long periods of telephone work.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
