Job Description:

The Medical Assistant, Float Team – SLPG, is responsible for assisting in healthcare support across practices within a defined region(s). This professional is a multidisciplinary team member who demonstrates and promotes the organization's values. The role requires flexibility, a broad skillset, and travel within the assigned region(s).

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating the patient’s medical record prior to the appointment, including recent test results and correspondence, and determine needed services in consultation with the provider.
  2. Complete pre-charting of all value-based components up to five days before the appointment and communicate with the Care Team as needed.
  3. Prepare patients for examinations, including measuring vital signs, updating medication and allergy information, and gathering social history and reason for visit.
  4. Assist in patient care services such as maintaining exam rooms, sterilizing instruments, and administering injections or immunizations within State guidelines.
  5. Coordinate communication with providers regarding hospital discharges, ED visits, specialist consultations, community resources, disease management, and patient education.
  6. Participate actively in department activities, including meetings and problem resolution.
  7. Dispose of bio-hazardous and regular waste following practice protocols.
  8. Manage vaccine temperature logs, inventory, and supplies, including ordering and stock management.
  9. Perform administrative tasks such as check-in/out and opening/closing procedures as needed.
  10. Suggest improvements to Practice Managers and Providers.
  11. Engage in quality improvement initiatives.
  12. Travel within the assigned geographic region(s) of SLPG practices.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:

Extended sitting, standing, and walking (up to 8 hours). Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds and pushing wheelchairs with patients up to 325 pounds.

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent required. Graduates of accredited Medical Assistant programs are highly preferred.

Training and Experience:

Preferred: Two years' experience in a similar healthcare setting. Customer service experience is strongly preferred.
