Job Description: Certified Medical Assistant

The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the physician's supervision.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
- Current Medical Assistant Certification from a recognized national professional association such as the American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Technologists, National Association of Healthcare Professions, American Registry of Medical Assistants, or National Healthcare Association.
Requirements for Continued Employment:
Certifications:
- AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.
Experience:
- At least one (1) year of medical assistant experience in the last three (3) years if not a graduate of a medical assistant program.
- No work experience required if a graduate of a medical assistant program.
- Experience with personal computers and software applications such as Microsoft Office, email, etc.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Experience:
- Two to three years as a Certified Medical Assistant.
- Experience in an academic healthcare environment.
Education/Training:
- Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting program (CAAHEP or ABHES).
Independent Actions:
Functions under supervision of a licensed practitioner, manager, or RN; may include handling medications and supplies; requires prior approval for schedule changes or legal issues.
Additional Requirements:
- Work all shifts, including weekends and holidays; schedule will be coordinated with Nurse or Practice Manager.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Physical: lifting 20-50 lbs, prolonged standing/sitting, bending, walking, climbing, reaching.
- Mental/Sensory: strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speech, reading, logical thinking.
- Emotional: ability to handle a fast-paced environment and multiple priorities.
