Job Summary

Geisinger is offering a $3,000 Bonus for those who qualify! Graduate of an accredited 1-year certificate or 2-year diploma Medical Assistant program preferred. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required. Certification by one of the listed governing associations (NHA, AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, AAH, or AMCA) is required.

Job Duties

  • Obtain and document patient information including reason for visit, weight, vital signs, medication review, and screening data using the electronic medical record.
  • Prepare examination and treatment rooms between patient cases.
  • Assist patients in preparing for visits, ensuring safety and privacy.
  • Provide direct patient care such as EKGs, wound dressings, and support during minor procedures, as competency allows.
  • Prepare and administer medications according to policies, excluding intravenous medications.
  • Perform tests and treatments as ordered by the provider, following competency validation.
  • Collect, prepare, and document laboratory specimens accurately to facilitate testing.
  • Perform phlebotomy and support laboratory functions under supervision.
  • Handle receptionist and clerical duties, including managing reports and documentation.
  • Use electronic medical and scheduling systems for documentation and appointment management.
  • Facilitate timely patient appointments, referrals, and pre-authorizations.
  • Collect co-payments and support patient communication as directed by the provider.
  • Assist with staff orientation and inventory management of supplies and pharmaceuticals.
  • Follow sterilization, disinfection, and infection control protocols.
  • Participate in patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.

Work is performed in a clinical setting, with possible travel. Compliance with policies and procedures is required. Additional department-specific skills may be necessary.

Education: Graduate from Specialty Training Program-Nursing (Required)

Experience: Minimum of 1 year in Nursing (Preferred)

Certifications & Licenses: Licensed Practical Nurse; BLS Certification
