Job summary

Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL, is hiring a Medical Assistant to support physicians, nurses, and mid-level providers in an ambulatory care setting. You will manage patient flow, perform vital signs, injections, immunizations, and basic testing.

The role requires a High school diploma, CMA certification, CPR, and strong communication and organizational skills. Eligible for a $3,000 sign-on bonus; full-time position (0.9–1.0 FTE) with shift 1 (8:00 AM–5:00 PM).

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED required.
• Clinical Medical Assistant Certification required (AAMA/AMT/NCCT/NAHP/AAH/NHA).
• Rush Medical Assistant Apprenticeship program graduates must obtain certification within six months of hire.
• Current CPR certification required on start date.
• Computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and maintains organized patient flow.
• Performs patient intake: vital signs, height/weight, reason for visit, interim history, allergies, medications.
• Prepares patient for exam based on visit reason.
• Supports patient and assists provider with procedures.
• Reviews appointment schedules and ensures all charts are available for visit.
• Reviews patient charts and ensures ancillary reports are available to provider.
• Performs basic lab and testing procedures.
• Performs phlebotomy and EKGs.
• Administers immunizations as ordered by physician.
• Administers medications after competency assessment.
• Performs nebulizer treatments after competency assessment.
• Performs Tuberculin skin testing as ordered.
• Documents administration of medications in Epic.
• Keeps exam rooms, treatment rooms, and workstations clean and stocked.
• Notifies patients of test results and medical instructions.
• Schedules patient tests, procedures, and follow-ups.
• Maintains equipment sterilization and inventory.
• Ensures compliance with Joint Commission standards and regulatory bodies.
