Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join our Pediatric Orthopedic Associate team in New Jersey. This role supports providers, prepares patients, and maintains accurate documentation in the EMR while ensuring a compassionate patient experience.

The CMA will work a consistent 40-hour week on days, with a focus on high-quality patient care, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Epic EMR knowledge and BLS are preferred and instructional growth opportunities are available.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months CMA experience required.
• Current CMA credential and BLS certification required.
• Familiarity with electronic medical records, preferably Epic.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for examinations by taking vital signs and documenting histories.
• Support providers during examinations and procedures as needed.
• Administer injections and collect specimens within scope of practice.
• Document test results and instructions in the EMR accurately.
• Coordinate patient flow and maintain exam rooms and supplies.
• Educate patients on medications, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
• Schedule appointments and process referrals with the care team.
• Contribute to a collaborative, patient-centered team environment.

A typical day for a Certified Medical Assistant may include:

• Preparing patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs, documenting medical histories, and ensuring they feel comfortable and informed throughout their visit
  
• Assisting physicians and advanced practice providers during examinations and procedures, anticipating clinical needs to support efficient, high-quality care
  
• Performing clinical tasks such as administering injections, collecting specimens, conducting point-of-care testing, and completing other duties within scope of practice
  
• Accurately documenting patient information, test results, and provider instructions within the electronic medical record to support continuity of care
  
• Coordinating patient flow by preparing exam rooms, maintaining supplies, and helping ensure appointments run efficiently
  
• Providing clear, compassionate education to patients regarding medications, treatment plans, follow-up appointments, and preventive care
  
• Scheduling appointments, processing referrals, and collaborating with the care team to support seamless patient experiences

• This position offers a consistent 40 hour work week. The schedule is Monday through Thursday from 8:30am to 5pm and Friday is 7am to 3pm
  • 3-4 days will be located in the East Brunswick office and 1-2 days will be spent in the Neptune office.
• You hold a current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential (AAMA, AECA, AMCA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, NCMA, or NHA) and a current American Heart Association BLS certification.
  
• A minimum of 6 months CMA experience is required and electronic medical record (EMR) systems, Epic, knowledge is preferred.
