Qualifications

Job description

Job Summary

Provides direct patient care and clinical support for physicians and other providers in the outpatient setting. Functions as an integral member of the healthcare team under the provider's direction. Performs clinical duties such as preparing patients, collecting and reviewing pertinent information, performing technical duties, documenting using the electronic medical record, and supporting a safe environment for patients. Provides administrative and clerical support including patient scheduling, filing reports, and following up on documentation, phone calls, and billing inquiries. A graduate of an accredited 1-year certificate or 2-year diploma Medical Assistant program is preferred. Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) is required, certified by one of the listed governing associations: NHA, AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, AAH, or AMCA.

Job Duties
  1. Obtain and document patient's reason for visit, weight, vital signs, screening information, medication review, and pertinent details using the electronic medical record's rooming tool.
  2. Set up examination and treatment rooms between cases.
  3. Assist patients in preparing for visits, ensuring safety and privacy.
  4. Provide direct patient care as directed by the provider, including performing EKGs, wound dressings, and supporting minor surgical procedures and examinations.
  5. Prepare and administer medications according to policy after demonstrating competency; may not administer intravenous medications.
  6. Complete patient tests and treatments per provider’s order, following policies and demonstrating competency.
  7. Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and complete related paperwork accurately to expedite testing.
  8. Perform phlebotomy and assist with laboratory functions related to testing, reporting, and quality assurance, overseen by laboratory staff.
  9. Perform receptionist and clerical duties, including filing reports and medical records.
  10. Document thoroughly in the medical record for accuracy and completeness.
  11. Use electronic medical records and scheduling systems effectively.
  12. Facilitate timely patient appointments, complete referrals, and pre-authorizations as needed.
  13. Collect co-payments.
  14. Assist with orientation of new personnel under the supervision of the provider or site lead.
  15. Manage patient communication, prioritize provider responses, and respond to patient inquiries to ensure efficiency and timely care.
  16. Reinforce patient education as directed by the provider.
  17. Inventory supplies and pharmaceuticals, verify expiration dates, and optimize organizational efficiency.
  18. Transport non-controlled medications as necessary within the clinic.
  19. Prepare and clean instruments, follow sterilization and disinfection protocols.
  20. Maintain infection prevention standards and inspect diagnostic equipment regularly.
  21. Participate in patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.

Work is performed in a clinical environment, with possible travel. All job-specific obligations and organizational policies must be followed. Additional competencies may be required based on department-specific orientation.

Position Details
  • Education: Graduate from Specialty Training Program-Nursing (Required)
