JOB SUMMARY

UT Southwestern at Park Cities seeks an experienced Certified Medical Office Assistant for the Rheumatology team. The ideal candidate is skilled in rheumatic diseases and EPIC, upbeat, provides exceptional customer service, and is passionate about serving an underserved patient population. Must maintain a patient-centered attitude, demonstrating compassion and empathy.

This position involves patient intake, rooming, assisting with procedures, medication reconciliation, medication and vaccine administration, lab results notification, FMLA forms assistance, pre-visit planning, chart preparation, medical record downloads, in-basket management, and clinical supply stocking. New medical assistant program graduates with externship experience are encouraged to apply. This role works under the supervision of physicians and/or nurses to provide clinical and administrative support.

Shift Requirement

Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm

Experience and Education

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:

  • 1 year of patient care experience in a physician office or completion of Medical Assistant training

Licenses and Certifications:

  1. BLS certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross), upon hire
  2. Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, NRCMA, NCMA, NHA-CCMA, or RMA), maintained current upon hire

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to coordinate with physicians, staff, and patients to provide optimal care
  • Telephone skills for patient and external communications
  • Ability to stand long periods and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math
  • Ability to make minor decisions
Job Duties
  • Record patient vital signs and perform basic procedures (e.g., EKG, phlebotomy, POC testing)
  • Transport patients, document care, and reinforce patient education
  • Prepare exam rooms, ensure diagnostic equipment is functional, and manage supplies
  • Monitor autoclave, perform QA, and conduct audits
  • Serve as preceptor for new staff and externs
  • Perform administrative duties such as scheduling and pre-certification
  • Ensure safety compliance and proper documentation
  • Maintain skills through ongoing training and participate in competency reviews
  • Provide occasional supervision to support staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned
