Job summary

The role performs routine and complex laboratory analyses, identifies and corrects problems, stays current in laboratory theory, and applies independent judgment to interpret results.

This position supports patient care in a fast-paced setting and contributes to quality control and safety compliance within the Core Lab.

Qualifications

• MT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), or MLT(ASCP) certification or equivalent.
• Associate degree in a clinical laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology.
• Knowledge of specimen requirements
• Familiar with laboratory terminology
• Laboratory assay schedules and expected turnaround times;
• ability to read and comprehend written information
• ability to effectively and efficiently perform a variety of job duties in a stressful, fast paced environment

Responsibilities

• Performs waived, moderately complex, and highly complex testing as defined by CLIA.
• Operates, maintains, and repairs clinical laboratory equipment within the scope of training including routine preventive maintenance, reagent preparation, calibrations, and safety checks.
• Maintains currency in the field through completion of all mandatory competencies and training modules, regular review of departmental policies and procedures and participation in continuing education opportunities.
• Performs and records all quality control procedures. Evaluates the results of quality control and implements corrective action when indicated.
• Performs accessioning, triage and processing of specimens in preparation for testing and transit.
• Follows all safety policies and procedures.
