Job summary

UNC Health is seeking a pharmacy technician to join the Shared Services pharmacy supply chain in Durham, NC. The role supports hospital and clinic distribution, inventory control, and accurate record-keeping across the warehouse system.

The position requires NC Board of Pharmacy registration or current PharmD program consideration; CPhT or ExCPT credentials are preferred. Strong attention to detail and familiarity with warehouse software are essential.

Qualifications

• Completion of an academic pharmacy technician training program preferred.
• Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy.
• CPhT/ExCPT certification preferred unless enrolled in PharmD program.
• Prior pharmacy technician experience preferred.
• Proficient in warehouse management systems and basic MS Office.
• Knowledge of pharmaceutical storage and cold chain requirements.
• Experience with automated dispensing or packaging systems.

Responsibilities

• Accurately select, label, and package medications for distribution to hospitals and clinics within and/or affiliated with the health-system.
• Ensure all medications are stored, handled, and shipped in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Receive, verify, and stock incoming pharmaceutical products and supplies.
• Conduct routine inventory counts, monitor stock levels, and assist with cycle counts and expiration date management.
• Maintain accurate records of drug movements and inventory transactions in the warehouse inventory management system and other applicable softwares.
• Prepare orders for shipment, ensuring accuracy, proper packaging and labeling, and appropriate storage conditions.
• Assist in the preparation of repackaging medications (non‑sterile products, oral, topical, etc.).
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the warehouse work areas.
• Work closely with pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, and pharmacy leadership, to coordinate workflow and resolve issues while maintaining a high standard of service.
• Respond promptly and professionally to inquiries or requests from customers, healthcare providers, and internal departments.
• Assist with training of new employees, educating them in job‑specific functions.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to process optimization.
• Participate in audits and assist in maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.
