Job summary

Penrose - St. Francis Health Services seeks a Histology Technician Certified to prepare and process tissue samples for routine histologic techniques for microscopic examination by a pathologist.

You will perform fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining, ensuring high-quality slides for diagnostic evaluation. Strong attention to detail and certification in histology are required, with a commitment to rigorous lab standards.

Qualifications

• Accredited Histotechnician/Histotechnologist program required or equivalent.
• HS with 60 college credits including biology and chemistry plus 1 year histology experience within the last 5 years.
• Associate degree with biology/chemistry and 1 year histology experience within the last 5 years.
• HS diploma with 2+ years of experience in all areas of routine histology.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and prioritize duties.
• Preferred: Histotechnician HT certification by ASCP.

Responsibilities

• Receive and prepare tissues using histological techniques with proper labeling and embedding.
• Section and stain specimens for routine and special studies following written procedures.
• Prioritize work to meet laboratory turnaround times.
• Assist pathologists within scope of practice.
• Monitor inventory and log reagents and supplies.
• Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain lab equipment with limited supervision.
