The City of Bryan Fire Department, a Civil Service department, is currently accepting applications for the position of Certified Firefighter (FF/EMT or FF/Paramedic)

Note: For those that pass the written exam, the date of your the Physical Fitness Assessment will be scheduled between December 3rd - 6th.
Work Schedule: 24 hours on duty (including weekends & holidays) & 48 hours off duty Switching to 48/96 in January 2027
Hiring Pay Rate: Fully certified Firefighter/EMT and Firefighter/Paramedic Cadet: $33.02/hour during initial training. Starting Firefighter (base pay plus minimum FLSA overtime): $75,120/year
Minimum Requirements:
- United States citizen by birth or naturalization.
- Between the ages of 18 and 40 at date of hire.
- Possess a High School Diploma or GED.
- Be able to read and write the English language.
- Be able to meet the physical standards for the position.
- If applicable, military service with honorable discharge as stipulated on DD-214 Form.
- Good moral character, stable employment history, and no history of any conduct which may affect suitability for firefighter/paramedic work.
- Applicant must not have engaged in, received deferred adjudication, or pre-trial diversion for, or been convicted of: conduct that constitutes a Felony or Class A misdemeanor conviction under state or federal law, to include the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ); or received deferred adjudication or pre-trial diversion for, or been convicted of a Class B misdemeanor within the last 10 years.
Certifications & Special Requirements:
- Must be certified as basic fire fighter and remain certified through time of appointment as established by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (or appropriate organization named by the State). At time of application OR by the application deadline, applicants shall provide evidence of certification issued by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.
- Must be certified as an EMT-Basic or higher by the Texas Department of State Health Services. At time of application OR by the application deadline, applicants shall provide an EMT or Paramedic Certificate issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
- Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license at the date of hire and meet the City’s evaluation criteria for the driver’s license record; must be able to obtain a Texas Class B Driver’s License within the timeframe set by the department.
- Once hired, must submit to a TB test as required. (Note: An initial TB test will be required during post-offer physical examination. A negative test result must be received in order to be considered for employment.)
- As a condition of employment, any firefighter hired after September 16, 1987, must successfully complete the paramedic training program when such training is made available and shall maintain State of Texas certification as a paramedic up through the ranks of firefighter, fire apparatus operator, and fire lieutenant.
