Job summary

Scott County, Iowa, is seeking a Building Inspector for Davenport. Under general supervision, you will conduct building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical inspections to promote safety for County residents and visitors.

This is a full-time, on-site position with competitive hourly pay. Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED plus five years in building trades or inspections, and ICC Building Inspector certification within one year, plus Iowa Electrical/Mechanical Inspector

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND five (5) years of experience in a building trade or inspections.
• Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, mechanical and building trades; familiarity with local, state, and federal codes.
• Ability to read plans and blueprints; communicate effectively in writing and verbally; establish cooperative relationships.

Responsibilities

• Performs plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and building inspections.
• Inspects new, remodeled, and repaired commercial, industrial, and residential buildings; reviews plans for compliance.
• Investigates and resolves complaints, including zoning; submits inspection reports.
• May interact with contractors and owners; answers questions about code requirements.
