Overview

The Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) will support orthopedic surgeons and physician assistants in the physician clinic setting, provide outreach services to local high school and ski and snowboard teams, and conduct strength and conditioning return-to-activity sessions for post-operative patients. The ATC may also engage in prevention, recognition, evaluation, immediate care, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of athletic injuries, healthcare administration, and professional development per the Domains of the NATA Certified Athletic Trainer. The ATC serves as a liaison between physicians, coaches, athletes, and parents, ensures that players participate only when physically able, and coordinates with the athletic director to cover the athletic training room and required events.

Responsibilities

• Maintain clinic flow between different areas of the clinic; act as liaison between patient, surgeon, and office team.
• Greet and room patients, take vitals and patient history; document and share information with physician and/or PA.
• Discuss patient’s initial evaluation and plan of care with physician and/or PA.
• Carry out treatments and recommendations by the physician or PA.
• Responsible for patient setup and education of in-office procedures; prepare for and assist with in-office procedures.
• Coordinate with surgery schedulers, authorization team, physical therapy, and other hospital departments for coordinated multidisciplinary patient care.
• Fabricate, adjust and remove orthopedic devices; apply mobilization and immobilization devices.
• Assist with the application of skin, skeletal and manual traction.
• Provide coverage for high school home games as agreed with the supervisor and the school.
• Develop and follow a comprehensive emergency action plan for school facilities and facilities used by the school's athletics department.
• Conduct concussion education and training for coaching staff.
• Establish working relationships with a designated team physician and community physicians.
• Provide consultation on strength and conditioning for participating athletes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
• Certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) and maintain the standards established by the NATA's role delineation study.
• American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification required.
• At least one year full-time work experience in a hospital, clinic, or office setting, with preference for experience in orthopedic patient care.
• Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) preferred.
• Completion of Orthopedic Technician program or one year experience in a related field preferred.
• AT Residency or fellowship training preferred.
• Skilled in taping and fitting durable medical equipment, applying wound dressings, suture removal, and casting/splinting.

Job Information

Full-time, day shifts at Mammoth and Bishop locations. Starting wage $35.60 to $43.15 based on qualifications.
