Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) seeks a Certified Athletic Trainer to support a high school setting with community-based sports medicine services.

The AT will provide prevention, care, and rehabilitation for musculoskeletal injuries, coordinate referrals, and assist with marketing of sports health programs. Weekend and evening hours are required.

Under physician, PT, PA, or NP supervision, the AT will work to improve athlete outcomes in a defined environment.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited college with a BS/BA. (Masters degree in Athletic Training preferred). Must interact with a wide range of ages. Weekend and evening hours to cover practices, games, tournaments, and special events.

Weekend and evening hours to cover practices, games, tournaments, and special events.


Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Certification by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers(BOC). Certified as an Athletic Trainer in South Carolina by DHEC.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.
