Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) (Transportation)
Position Summary
The Athletic Trainer (ATC) is responsible for assisting Physicians and/or Mid-level Providers in the clinic setting, hospital, and DME department. Duties include fitting and educating patients on Durable Medical Equipment (DME) prescribed by physicians, applying and removing casts, and coordinating insurance and billing for DME. Acts as a liaison between staff, physicians, and DME supervisors and managers. Assists in maintaining equipment, supplies, and exam rooms.
Essential Job Functions/Accountabilities
- Ensure patient forms are complete, current, and entered into the EMR. Check EMR for progress notes and stat orders, prepare charge tickets, and respond to stat orders.
- Enter DME charges with appropriate modifiers based on insurance requirements. Conduct accurate dispensing of DME in the inventory system.
- Obtain insurance authorizations for DME. Check insurance benefits and explain coverage to patients. Fit patients with prescribed orthoses, including evaluation, modification, and patient training. Address any DME-related questions.
- Schedule DME appointments and send referrals to vendors based on insurance restrictions to facilitate patient access to prescribed equipment.
- Assist in daily office routines and provide backup coverage when needed.
- Maintain office and clinical equipment, order supplies, and ensure cleanliness and proper sterilization of exam rooms and equipment. Report repairs or maintenance needs.
- Assist physicians with procedures, gather equipment, position patients, and respond to instructions. Remove dressings, apply/remove casts and splints, and educate patients on DME use.
- Provide patient education on care plans, ensure proper documentation, and communicate follow-up appointments.
- Attend departmental meetings and in-services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related field from an accredited program.
- Experience: 3-5 years as an Athletic Trainer or related field preferred.
- Certifications: Current license from the Ohio OTPTAT Board to practice Athletic Training; BOC certification preferred; BLS required.
