Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center is seeking a Central Sterile Technician in the Portland, OR area. This role ensures a sterile, clean, and safe environment that supports high-quality medical and surgical care, including instrument decontamination, preparation, and distribution for procedures.

You will work to identify opportunities for improvement, mentor new team members, and contribute to ongoing infection control and documentation efforts within the sterile processing department.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; Central Service operations course or equivalent preferred.
  • Knowledge of sterilization principles and infection control importance.
  • Ability to document diligently and operate electronic systems.

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate, prepare, disinfect, sterilize, and distribute instruments, trays, equipment, and case carts.
  • Distribute flexible scopes and equipment for endoscopic care.
  • Set up, change over, and stock procedure rooms.
  • Ensure proper decontamination for safe handling of instruments.
  • Assemble and package items for sterilization per procedure.
  • Monitor equipment operation and maintain documentation records.
  • Operate computer systems safely and effectively.
  • Assemble carts and instrument drawers for surgery readiness.
  • Respond to material and equipment requests; maintain inventory.

Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center is the South Metro area’s full-service medical center, with the friendly feel of a community hospital and the skill and services of a much larger medical center. Among our specialties: stroke, chest pain, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, cancer care and orthopedic and total joint surgery. Plus, a birth center and breast health center.

Responsibilities

The Central Sterile Technician is responsible for decontamination, preparation, high-level disinfection, sterilization, and distribution of instruments, trays, equipment, and case carts used in medical and surgical patient care. Other duties include:

  • Distribute flexible scopes, biopsy instruments, traveling video carts, and other supplies and equipment used in endoscopic patient care.
  • Assist with the set-up, changeover, and stocking of procedure rooms.
  • Ensure instruments and equipment are properly decontaminated for safe handling.
  • Assemble and package instruments for sterilization according to procedure.
  • Monitor sterilization and processing equipment for proper functioning and maintain required documentation records.
  • Operate computer systems properly and safely.
  • Assemble case carts, house-wide procedure carts, and instrument drawers accurately and timely to ensure availability for surgery.
  • Respond to routine and non-routine requests for materials, supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Record and maintain department quality-management indicators.
  • Promote professional growth and development of self and others.
Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of Central Service operations course or equivalent experience in Central Sterile preferred.

Skills:

  • Understanding of the principles and methods of sterilization
  • Understanding of the importance of infection control and good aseptic techniques
  • Understanding of the importance of documentation
  • Thorough knowledge of instruments and scopes
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and telephone etiquette
  • Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions.
Pay Range

USD $22.32 - USD $31.90 /Hr.
