Job summary

Haywood Regional Medical Center seeks a Central Sterile Tech to prepare surgical suites and assist during procedures. This position is vital for ensuring a smooth surgical experience and maintaining instrument readiness.

Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS and PALS certification required within six months of hire.
  • One year of experience preferred.
  • ASLS certification preferred.

  • Prepare surgical operating suite with drapes and instruments.
  • Ensure good working order of equipment.
  • Assist with preparing and positioning patients.
  • Pass instruments to physician during surgery.
  • Process specimens for delivery to laboratory.

The operating room is equipped with six beds and handles an average of 400 cases per month. The scope of procedures includes a diverse range of specialties: Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Cataract and Retinal Eye surgeries, Gynecologic, Laparoscopic and Endoscopic, Orthopedic, Pain Management, Plastic and Reconstructive, and Gastroenterological surgeries. The majority of cases are general and orthopedic. Surgical operations are conducted Monday through Friday, with additional night, weekend, and holiday call rotations to ensure continuous coverage.

How you'll contribute

A Central Sterile Tech Uncertified who excels in this role:

  • Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment and supplies.
  • Ensures good working order of equipment and instruments.
  • Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
  • Passes instruments to physician during surgery. Continually accounts for number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery.
  • Receives and processes specimens for delivery to the laboratory.

What we're looking for

Applicants should possess a high school degree or GED. Additional requirements include:

  • Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
