Job summary

Raleigh General Hospital is seeking a Central Sterile Technician to join our team. You will perform inspection, decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of instruments while maintaining strict aseptic technique and detailed documentation.

This role supports surgical teams and inventory control, ensuring critical supplies are ready for procedures. Strong attention to detail and knowledge of processing guidelines are essential for delivering high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • CRCST certification within 18–24 months of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Provides inspection, decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of instruments and other equipment.
  • Documents sterilization cycles, maintenance, and inventory records.
  • Manages inventory levels of sterile supplies and ensures proper storage and replenishment.
  • Collaborates with surgical teams to ensure availability of sterile supplies for procedures.
  • Provides customer service to all departments with a focus on patient needs.

How you'll contribute

ACentral Sterile Technicianwho excels in this role:

  • Provides inspection, decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of instruments and other patient care equipment in accordance with processing guidelines, AAMI, AORN, TJC, and OSHA requirements.
  • Provides processing and documentation of all sterile supplies and equipment daily using chemical, biological and mechanical indicators to verify sterility in accordance with manufacturer instructions and hospital policy.
  • Provides monitoring and performance of antimicrobial and disinfection solutions testing according to manufacturer instructions and daily documentation.
  • Provides operation of departmental equipment daily according to manufacturer instructions with emphasis on safety.
  • Provides management of inventory levels of sterile supplies, ensuring all items are properly stored, tracked, and replenished as needed.
  • Provides maintenance of accurate documentation of sterilization cycles, equipment maintenance, and inventory records.
  • Provides collaboration with surgical teams to ensure all necessary sterile supplies are available for upcoming procedures.
  • Provides customer service to all departments with a focus on patient needs.

Schedule: Full Time, Rotating.

What we're looking for
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
Licensures/Certifications:
  • CRCST Certification within 18-24 months of hire date.
Required Skills:
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology to understand the function and proper handling of medical instruments, preferred not required.
  • Experience in sterile processing or a related healthcare environment with a focus on aseptic technique, preferred not required.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology relevant to surgical instruments and procedures, preferred not required.
  • Knowledgeable in inventory management systems to track supplies efficiently.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions precisely while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety.
  • Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail for quality assurance purposes.
