Job summary

Gerdau North America is seeking a skilled maintenance technician in Petersburg, VA to support heavy industrial machinery and electrical systems. You will read blueprints, perform preventative maintenance, and repair pumps, motors, and gear boxes, on a 12-hour rotating shift.

This role requires work at heights and collaboration within a self-directed team. The position offers extensive training, a comprehensive benefits package, tuition reimbursement, and a career path system designed to grow

Qualifications

• 3 to 5 years of heavy industrial mechanical or electrical maintenance experience.
• Experience in an industrial environment with routine maintenance.
• Ability to work at heights up to 150 ft.
• Ability to work a rotating 12 hr shift, days, nights, and two weekends a month (Dupont 4/3 schedule).
• Ability to read drawings, specifications, charts and blueprints.
• Experience with pumps, hydraulics and pneumatics; stick/TIG welding and rigging.
• Ability to work well in a self-directed team with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

• Install, adjust, repair, and perform assigned maintenance using drawings, manuals, and instructions.
• Position, fit and weld components to assemble machinery frames and plant equipment per blueprints.
• Troubleshoot and service pumps, gear boxes, motors, cranes, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
• Periodically inspect plant machines and equipment for preventative maintenance.
• Tear down, replace, repair, install, and assemble simple equipment parts and attachments.
• Cut, bend, and thread conduit, pipe, and tubing.
• Maintain records of work performed and materials used.

Your Qualifications

• 3 to 5 years of heavy industrial mechanical OR electrical maintenance experience with diesel or heavy equipment or mobile equipment experience.
• Experience working in an industrial environment in a position containing a routine maintenance component
• Ability to work in heights up to 150 ft.
• Ability to work a rotating 12 hr shift, days, nights, and two weekends a month (Dupont 4/3 schedule)
• Understanding of shop mathematics with the use of drawings, specifications, charts, tables, and precision measuring instruments
• Experience with AC/DC motors, gear box mechanics, lubrication principles, welding, cutting torch, NFPA 70E, and common maintenance hand tools
• Experience with pumps, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, stick and tig welding and rigging principles
• Knowledge of interpreting schematics and blueprints
• Ability and willingness to work as part of a self-directed team with limited supervision

Your Work

• Use drawings, sketches, wiring diagrams, machine operation and maintenance manuals, work order requests, and oral instructions to install, adjust, repair, and perform assigned maintenance duties.
• Position, fit and weld components to assemble machinery frames, plant equipment, attachments or accessories, and building parts according to blueprints or knowledge of structure and metal characteristics utilizing various specialty cutting and welding equipment.
• Troubleshoot and service pumps, gear boxes, motors, cranes, and hydraulic, and pneumatic systems as needed at an intermediate level.
• Periodically inspect conditions of plant operating machines and equipment for preventative maintenance purposes. Inspect and perform routine equipment care on all shop machinery, mobile equipment, and cranes.
• Tear down, replace, repair, install, and assemble simple equipment parts, components, and accessories.
• Cut, bend, and thread conduit, pipe, and tubing.
• Maintain specified records of work performed, details of repairs, and material usage.
