Job summary

Gerdau North America is seeking an experienced maintenance technician for heavy industrial electrical work, including diesel and mobile equipment. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot pumps, motors, gear boxes, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and work from drawings and blueprints.

The role requires 3–5 years in an industrial setting, the ability to climb to 150 ft, and a rotating 12-hour schedule with day/night shifts.

Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of heavy industrial electrical maintenance experience with diesel or heavy equipment.
  • Experience in an industrial setting with routine maintenance responsibilities.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 150 ft and on a 12-hour rotating shift.
  • Strong understanding of drawings, specs, and precision measurement tools.
  • Experience with pumps, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, and NFPA 70E compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Install, adjust, repair, and perform maintenance using drawings and manuals.
  • Fit and weld components to assemble machinery and building parts per blueprints.
  • Troubleshoot pumps, gear boxes, motors, cranes, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
  • Inspect machines for preventative maintenance and perform routine care.
  • Dismantle/repair/assemble equipment parts and maintain records of work.
  • Cut, bend, and thread conduit, pipe, and tubing.
  • Learn maintenance for mobile equipment and plant utilities.

Your Qualifications
  • 3 to 5 years of heavy industrial electrical maintenance experience with diesel or heavy equipment or mobile equipment experience.
  • Experience working in an industrial environment in a position containing a routine maintenance component
  • Ability to work in heights up to 150 ft.
  • Ability to work a rotating 12 hr shift, days, nights, and two weekends a month (Dupont 4/3 schedule)
  • Understanding of shop mathematics with the use of drawings, specifications, charts, tables, and precision measuring instruments
  • Experience with AC/DC motors, gear box mechanics, lubrication principles, welding, cutting torch, NFPA 70E, and common maintenance hand tools
  • Experience with pumps, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, stick and tig welding and rigging principles
  • Knowledge of interpreting schematics and blueprints
  • Ability and willingness to work as part of a self-directed team with limited supervision
Your Work
  • Use drawings, sketches, wiring diagrams, machine operation and maintenance manuals, work order requests, and oral instructions to install, adjust, repair, and perform assigned maintenance duties.
  • Position, fit and weld components to assemble machinery frames, plant equipment, attachments or accessories, and building parts according to blueprints or knowledge of structure and metal characteristics utilizing various specialty cutting and welding equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and service pumps, gear boxes, motors, cranes, and hydraulic, and pneumatic systems as needed at an intermediate level.
  • Periodically inspect conditions of plant operating machines and equipment for preventative maintenance purposes. Inspect and perform routine equipment care on all shop machinery, mobile equipment, and cranes.
  • Tear down, replace, repair, install, and assemble simple equipment parts, components, and accessories.
  • Cut, bend, and thread conduit, pipe, and tubing.
  • Maintain specified records of work performed, details of repairs, and material usage.
