Job summary

SIMCO, LLC at Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks a Back Shift CCP Vendor Project Manager to oversee operations with a focus on safety, compliance, and efficiency in a high-hazard environment.

Qualifications

Overview

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual, to serve as the Back Shirft Cental Characterization Program (CCP) Vendor Project Manager (VPM), to join our team at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), located in Los Alamos, NM. The hours for this position are 1:00pm - 11:30pm Monday through Thursday.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing, controlling, and tracking operators work in support of the Central Characterization Program (CCP) at LANL. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, and deliberate implementation of procedures to ensure work activities are performed safely and compliantly. The following are key responsibilities of a CCP Vendor Project Manager (VPM):

• Obtain qualification as CCP Vendor Project Manager.
• Interface with working groups and customers from outside organizations as needed to complete work scope.
• Provide oversight of CCP operations personnel; provide conduct-of-operations leadership and expertise.
• Provide direction to assigned personnel regarding execution of work scope.
• Conduct and perform daily shift briefings and report daily plans and priorities to CCP management.
• Coordinate and supervise CCP equipment deployment, demobilization and maintenance activities.
• Perform management observations and assist with management assessments as needed.
• Develop lessons learned and task specific briefings as necessary.
• Mentor team members and provide opportunities for professional development.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Education And Experience

• Bachelor’s degree with two (2) years of related experience, or
• Associate’s degree with six (6) years of related experience, or
• High School Diploma or Equivalency with ten (10) years of related experience is required.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a “Q” Clearance
• Demonstrated knowledge of operational safety, conduct of operations, and quality assurance programs.
• Physical demands associated with this position include prolonged standing, extensive walking, lifting and carrying heavy weighted items, up to 50 pounds.
• The ability to negotiate stairs, ladders and platforms, as well as the ability to work in various weather conditions.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without SIMCO visa sponsorship now or in the future.
• Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the WIPP Site (even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge).
• Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns—including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries—are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.

Preferred Requirements

• Demonstrated working knowledge of CCP TRU Waste Characterization activities across the complex and Visual Examination Process is a plus.
• Basic skills in researching and recommending alternative solutions to problems associated with the management, disposition, coordination, packaging, movement, storage, quality control of TRU Mixed Waste.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to interact with a variety of constituents.
• HRP Certification is desired.
• Preference given to candidates with demostrated working knowledge of CCP TRU Waste Characterization activities and equipment.
• Two (2) years in a supervisory or management role is preferred.
• Previous WIPP Project or CCP experience is a plus.

Salary Range

$89,233 to $157,968 per year. Exempt grade level(s) 31-33. The specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
