Acument Global Technologies in California is seeking a centerless grinder operator to set up and run machines grinding external or internal cylindrical surfaces according to blueprints. You will read specs, mount wheels, dress tooling, adjust speeds and feeds, and verify part dimensions for conformance.

Preferred candidates have prior machine shop experience, especially aerospace, with strong problem solving, safety, and attendance records. On-site position with a focus on quality and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Reads blueprint and job order to determine specifications and tooling.
  • Mounts grinding wheel and regulating wheel on spindles.
  • Dresses grinding wheels to specifications.
  • Sets grinding speeds, feed rates, and spacing between wheel faces.
  • Positions and secures work rest at specified height.
  • Lifts and positions work piece between wheels and on work rest.
  • Starts machine and observes operation.
  • Verifies dimensions of ground work piece to spec.
  • Changes worn grinding wheels.
  • Sets up automatic work feeding device.
  • Preferred: aerospace manufacturing experience.

Job description

Position Summary

Sets up and operates one or more centerless grinding machines to grind external or internal cylindrical or tapered surfaces of metalwork pieces to blueprint specifications by performing specific duties

Position Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:
  • Reads blueprint and job order to product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, and number of parts to be ground, and tooling instructions such as grinding speeds, feed rates, holding fixtures, and grinding wheels to be used
  • Mounts grinding wheel and regulating wheel on spindles using wrenches
  • Dresses grinding wheels to specifications
  • Moves controls to set specified grinding speeds, feed rates, and spacing between wheel faces
  • Positions and secures work rest at specified height
  • Lifts and positions work piece manually or with hoist and secures it between wheels and on work rest
  • Starts machine and observes operation
  • Verifies dimensions of ground work piece for conformance to specifications
  • Changes worn grinding wheels
  • Sets up automatic work feeding device

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in a machine shop environment, preferably in aerospace manufacturing
