Job summary

Avantus Aerospace USA seeks a Centerless Grinder operator to set up and operate precision grinding equipment to grind lot parts per shop practices.

You will read blueprints, select tooling, and measure parts with micrometers and calipers, while troubleshooting loading systems and recording production data.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate grinding equipment within capacity.
• Know TD, angle/head parts; understand protrusion gauging.
• Hand feed using head stop for profile grinding.
• Set up and troubleshoot auto grinders loading system.
• Select tooling and fixtures for grinding operation.
• Inspect parts with micrometers, calipers, gauges for tolerance.
• Determine proper feed and speed combinations.
• Record piece counts and run times.
• Identify and adjust improper machine function.
• Read and interpret blueprints and overlays.
• Use SPC and shop floor data collection systems.

Job description

Basic Purpose and Objective

Centerless Grinder operator sets up and operates precision grinding equipment to grind lot parts in accordance with established shop practices. Performs work operations under supervision.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Sets-up and operates precision grinding equipment to perform operations within machine capacity and capability.
• Must have knowledge of grinding TD, angle head and button head parts and understanding of head protrusion gauging.
• Must have demonstrated ability to perform hand feeding using a head stop for profile grinding.
• Demonstrated ability to setup and troubleshoot loading system for the auto grinders.
• Selects tooling and fixtures pertaining to the grinding operation.
• Inspects parts for quality and appropriate tolerance using measuring tools such as micrometers, gauge blocks, protrusion gauge, millimes gauge, calipers, and comparators.
• Determines proper feed and speed combination.
• Records the piece count and run time of the production times.
• Recognizes improper machine functioning and makes required adjustments if possible.
• Demonstrated technical knowledge and experience in reading and interpreting blueprints and overlays.
• Demonstrated ability to use SPC and shop floor data collection systems.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Skills and Formal Training Requirements/Experience

• Able to read, comprehend, and execute directions from mechanical drawings.
• Able to measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
