Job summary

The City of Atlanta Parks & Recreation department is seeking a Cemetery Supervisor for Oakland Cemetery to lead a crew and manage day-to-day cemetery operations.

Responsibilities include coordinating burial events, maintaining records, supervising staff, and overseeing contracts while ensuring respectful handling of cemetery grounds and interments. This full-time role requires strong leadership and community communication.

Responsibilities

  • Directs ground maintenance crew as well as court-mandated community service workers in efforts to maintain and preserve cemetery grounds.
  • Meets with families to arrange burial event details.
  • Prepares and maintains cemetery records.
  • Oversees and approves family lot sales and transfers.
  • Directs vendors, contractors, and film producers on the sensitive nature of the cemetery.
  • Submits weekly reports for maintenance, equipment, and Kronos.
  • Normally receives guidance regarding overall mission, scheduling, unusual priorities, etc., but is free to set work methods, timetables, performance standards, etc.
  • Routinely provides work group leadership, guidance, and/or training to less experienced staff.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Salary: $47,474 - $63,379 annually

General Description and Classification Standards:

Performs administrative, supervisory, and skilled maintenance duties necessary for the operation of Oakland Cemetery. This is an experienced, skilled, or technical level capable of carrying out most assignments typical of the position or specialty with limited guidance or review. This is full-time supervisory work over a work group of skilled and unskilled employees.

Supervision Received:

Works under general supervision and follows standardized procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks.
