Job summary

The Historic Preservationist for the Florida Department of State, Division of Historical Resources, identifies, researches, and documents historic cemeteries using archival research, genealogical methods, and GIS mapping. This role involves site visits, data management, and collaboration with communities to preserve cemeteries.

Responsibilities include maintaining the Florida Master Site File, coordinating with partners, and supporting outreach and educational programs related to cemetery

Qualifications

• Four years of experience in archaeology, anthropology, historic preservation, or architectural history (or bachelor's degree substitute).
• Advanced proficiency with ArcGIS Pro Desktop including georeferencing, digitization, and analysis with required work sample submission.
• Knowledge of cemetery studies, cultural significance, and material characteristics of historic cemeteries.
• Ability to conduct historical and genealogical research using vital records and archival documentation.
• Valid Driver's License and ability to travel for site visits and community outreach.
• Ability to adjust work schedule for evenings, weekends, and after-hours obligations.
