Qualifications

  • Six years of professional experience in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field (or Master's degree substitute).
  • At least two years of professional archaeological field experience including survey, excavation, and mapping.
  • Technical archaeological experience including laboratory analysis, report writing, and data management.
  • Knowledge of pertinent state and federal cultural resource legislation.
  • Proficiency with geophysical survey methods such as ground-penetrating radar and RTK GPS.
  • Experience leading cultural resource surveys and preparing professional reports.

Job description

The Archaeologist III conducts cultural resource surveys and manages archaeological research on over 5 million acres of state-owned conservation land in Florida. This position within the Division of Historical Resources' Public Lands Archaeology Program involves frequent travel to state parks, forests, and wildlife management areas to assess archaeological sensitivity, locate and record sites, prepare National Register nominations, and oversee the archaeological research permit program. The role includes field surveys, laboratory analysis, report writing, and public outreach to support site preservation and protection.

Key qualifications:
