Under the general supervision of the Cemetery Sexton, the Cemetery Maintenance Specialist III serves as a crew lead in a variety of activities, including cemetery grounds maintenance, cemetery interments, open space, horticulture, facility maintenance, irrigation systems, and urban forestry. The position provides input into department goals and objectives.

May supervise seasonal employees. Carries out crew leader responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; providing feedback and coaching.
High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of park or cemetery operations experience. One year of supervisory experience is preferred. Any combination of experience and education that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
Knowledge: turf management, forestry and horticultural practices; cemetery maintenance practices; sustainable practices, including integrated pest management approaches; basic computer knowledge and understanding of business application of various technological tools and systems, including Microsoft Office.
Skills: implementing maintenance standards; planning, assigning, and directing work; communicating with the public and staff; familiarity with cemetery processes and records.
Abilities: assist in evaluating the performance of seasonal staff and take corrective action when necessary; assist in creating an effective working environment for seasonal staff including ongoing communication, continuously improving processes to streamline work activities, provide continuous feedback and coaching to staff, and provide staff with opportunities for engagement
Must possess and maintain a valid Utah Driver License and be deemed insurable and able to operate City-owned equipment and vehicles. A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) may be required.
An Applicator Pesticide Spray License, or the ability to obtain one, is preferred.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office or moderately noisy when in the field. May be required to work a varied schedule of hours, which may include early mornings and evenings. May be required to work in inclement weather conditions.
