Job summary

Cemex US in Alabama is seeking a capable plant operator to independently run milling and kiln systems under supervision. Demonstrated competence on the operation of both kilns is required.

You will read instrument diagrams, perform basic tests, document results, and ensure safe, efficient plant operation while following safety rules and procedures. Responsibilities include assisting in plant repairs, startup/shutdown, and routine instrumentation adjustments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED completed.
• Language skills commensurate with education level.
• Mathematical skills including basic arithmetic and percentages.
• Reasoning skills to recognize hazardous situations and follow instructions.
• Two years in a similar industry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Must assist in any Cement Plant repair as directed and in refractory and repair of kiln system
• Read and interpret instrument loop diagrams, sketches and manufacturer's specifications; perform simple chemical and physical control tests and report results
• Start up and shut down the plant; make minor repairs and adjustments to electrical equipment
• Operate console equipment including CRTs, communication devices, recorders, printers, keyboards and other control instruments
• Understand and adjust electrical and pneumatic instrumentation for operation and minor repairs
• Diagnose problems using mechanical knowledge and take necessary actions, including emergency repairs
• Perform cleanup to keep equipment and work areas clean, orderly, and safe
• Adhere to company safety rules and wear proper safety equipment on plant grounds
• Safety equipment includes hardhat, safety glasses, ear protection, safety shoes, belts, gloves and respirators
