Job description

NYC Parks is the steward of over 30,000 acres of land – 14 percent of New York City – including more than 5,000 properties ranging from Coney Island Beach and Central Park to community gardens and Greenstreets. We operate over 800 athletic fields, nearly 1,000 playgrounds, 1,800 basketball courts, 550 tennis courts, 65 pools, 51 recreational facilities, 15 nature centers, 14 golf courses, and 14 miles of beaches. We care for 1,200 monuments and 23 historic house museums. Additionally, we maintain 600,000 street trees and two million in parks. As NYC’s principal providers of recreational and athletic facilities, we host free concerts, sports events, and cultural festivals.

We are seeking a qualified Cement Mason to work in Manhattan from June through October 11, 2025.

Major Responsibilities
  1. Under direction, prepare, mix, lay, and finish cement and concrete to grade and contour; perform related work.
  2. Mix cement and concrete, prepare, and set forms for cement laying.
  3. Lay cement and/or concrete for floors, pavements, walks, foundations, and retaining walls (plain or reinforced). Screed and finish to grade and contour as required.
  4. Prepare material requisitions for specific job requirements.
  5. Safeguard Parks & Recreation property, tools, and equipment.
  6. Maintain accurate records and produce reports related to assigned tasks.
  7. Ensure a safe work environment, protecting the public and personnel.
  8. Interact courteously and professionally with staff and the public.
  9. Potentially supervise assigned personnel.

Duration: June 2025 to October 11, 2025.

Fees: Hired candidates will be subject to a processing fee of $101.00. Candidates not currently employed by the City will also pay a $101.25 background check fee.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a cement mason; or
  2. At least three years of full-time satisfactory experience as a cement mason plus relevant training or experience as a mason’s helper or in an approved trade or vocational school. Credits are given for mason’s helper experience or training.
Preferred Skills
  • Valid New York State driver license.
  • Strong customer service, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
